|SIL Landscape's three projects with railway sleepers|
We are passionate about design, and have many
inspirations to draw from, particularly contemporary designs with a Mediterranean
twist, that make the most of clear geometric forms and create outdoor spaces
that combine function, form and colour with low maintenance design, allowing
you to sit back and enjoy your garden, in your own time.

1 The Brief: To create an inspiring space,
enhance the existing features of the garden, and provide substantial planting
areas for an avid gardener. To create added privacy with fencing, space for
entertaining, and produce a garden that is quite simply out of the ordinary.
The Design: The design includes a large, curved deck, Baltic pine plant beds, filled with rich layers of texture and colour, several level changes, espaliers, textural hazel fencing creating borders and privacy, and smooth slate paving, perfect for afternoon sun. This garden was designed by John Newman, Landscape Designer.
2 The Brief: To create a low maintenance,
high impact stylish space, and provide decking area for al fresco dining, using
contrasting colours and textures, and to help give a sense of space to the garden.
The Design: The garden area is split up into zones to give the illusion of more space, using slate paving laid in horizontal lines contrasting with gravel and Dutch oak sleepers forming geometric plant beds that punctuate the space creating a contemporary, urban landscape. Co-designed by John Newman and Rebecca Phillips.
3 The Brief: To rationalise the existing large Victorian cottage garden
into more manageable zones, working with and enhancing the existing features
such as box hedge borders and herbaceous borders. To create a patio area for
al fresco dining, and further planting areas.
The Design: A formal, low maintenance, cottage garden is created within the existing box hedges consisting of pinewood plant beds and gravel laid around a central feature. A patio and path is created as an edge to this zone which features an intricately laid pattern that allows planting to sit close to the path and patio edge and also includes a herb garden that provides both colours and scents to trickle over the hard landscaping, perfect for tranquil evenings. Designed by Rebecca Phillips.
